Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S Camera Impresses DxOMark

Xiaomi has launched its Mi Mix 2S Android smartphone that is based on a 5.99″ IPS LCD with 1080 x 2160 resolution (18:9) and using Gorilla Glass 4. The processor is a Snapdragon 845 with 6GB (64GB or 128GB) of RAM or 8GB with 256GB of storage. There is a USB Type-C connector and a free USB to 3.5mm adaptor is supplied. The battery is 3400 mAh.

DxOMark has published the results of its in-depth analysis of the camera. The device’s dual camera setup uses a 1/2.6″ sensor aligned with a wide-angle 26mm-equivalent lens that boasts an optical image stabilisation system. The second camera uses a smaller 1/3.4″ 12MP sensor combined with an equivalent 46mm telephoto lens for zooming. With an overall score of 97, the Mi MIX 2S runs neck-and-neck with some high-end devices from more established manufacturers such as Apple, Google and Samsung.

With a Photo sub-score of 101 points, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S achieves the same score for still photography as the iPhone X and is only three points behind the Samsung S9 Plus. DxOMark wrote, “Its standout features are an excellent phase detection autofocus system that is fast, accurate and very repeatable, together with its nice balance between texture preservation and noise reduction. In low light, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S renders some of the smoothest files we’ve seen and luminance noise is very well-controlled in outdoor images too”.

At 88 points, the device’s Video score is a little lower than that of its still image performance but still good. The article continued, “Its main video strengths are its excellent autofocus system and electronic stabilisation system. Noise is fairly well-controlled as well but dynamic range is a little limited in some clips”.

At the moment, the phone will not be made available in the US and availability is likely to be just in some countries in Europe.

This would have been even more impressive if the Huawei hadn’t just beaten all the other phones in the DXOMark! (Huawei P20 Pro Camera Impresses). Nevertheless, this looks like an impressive smartphone from Xiaomi (BR)
