Wistron Expects Q2 Notebook Decline

Wistron shipped 1.3 million notebooks in May, 7.1% lower than April and the company says it expects its second quarter notebook shipments to suffer a sequential decline, having originally forecast up to 5% growth. Wistron believes that clients are not placing orders because consumers are waiting for the release of Windows 10.

Wistron also shipped 600,000 LCD monitors in May, as well as one million desktops and 400,000 LCD TVs. The company’s smartphone shipment goal of 20 million units in 2015 is unlikely to be achieved as the company has so far only shipped around five million smartphones and tablets for the first five months in 2015.

The company’s sales in May were down 4.5% sequentially to NT$44.8 billion ($1.4 billion), though this was 2.4% higher year on year. May’s result brought sales so far in 2015 to NT$242.5 billion ($7.8 billion), up 14% compared with the same time last year.
