What They Say
Microsoft has released details of its Windows 11 operating system upgrade. Tom’s Hardware published a good summary.
- Windows 11 will be a free upgrade by ‘holiday 2021’
- Not all PCs will be supported. You need TPM 2.0 and a 9″ display with 720P and a GPU compatible with DirectX 12
- Even computers which have TPM 2.0 and secure boot, but are older than an Intel 8th Gen Core or AMD Ryzen 2000 series CPU won’t be supported in the final release
- There are new ‘snap layouts’ and the if you have a tablet or laptop that you dock to an external monitor and then undock, Windows 11 will automatically minimize the windows that were on the external monitor(s) when you disconnect from them and then automatically restore them to the monitor when you reconnect.
- There is no ‘tablet mode’. You can use the same gestures as on a touchpad on the display
- The use of a pen will allow haptic feedback.
- There is also Auto HDR processing with an HDR monitor, even if a game doesn’t (similar to the XBox)
- Android Apps will run on Windows
What We Think
There are more details on Tom’s site. I like the idea of the automatic window feature when docking. (BR)
