Sigmaintell of China is positive about the continued growth of curved TV panels although in some markets the enthusiasm is declining. The company said that curved TV panel sales were ‘close to’ three million in Q1 and representing 4.9% of the market. In mainstream sizes, the penetration was 10% and for 65″ it is 27%. It said that it sees brands promoting curved to try to maintain margins.
Samsung Display is the main driver of the trend and 20% of its output of TV panels in Q1 were curved. AUO is next, with 14% of its TV panels being curved. CSOT is also reported to be increasing its share of curved.
Looking forward Sigmaintell expects the focus to remain on the largest sets, with 48″ and above reaching 13 million this year, representing 13% of that part of the market.
Analyst Comment
Clearly, the perspective is different from China. In Europe and the US, the trend to curved is definitely not increasing and probably is declining. (BR)
