Wider Colour Coming to Apple’s iMacs

Apple’s 27″ iMac is currently the only model with a retina (5k) display.Ming-Chi Kuo, a KGI Securities analyst and uncannily accurate Apple tipster, has said that the company is preparing to launch new iMacs with improved displays some time this quarter.

According to Kuo, the new iMacs will benefit from improved colour saturation, using an LED phosphor material called KSF (which boosts the red and has already been used in LEDs by vendors including Sony – Man. Ed.). New processors (Skylake? – TA) will also be used.

An inventory draw-down in Q2, coupled with the new iMacs and promotions, will drive strong QoQ growth for Apple’s iMac shipments in Q3 – perhaps as much as doubling Q2 sales.

The latest beta of OS X ‘El Capitan’ has shed more light on the subject. French website Consomac uncovered code in the latest beta build, pointing to a new 21.5″ iMac with 4k resolution. That’s not UltraHD, but 4096 x 2304 (Apple loves non-standard resolutions).
