Data from DisplaySearch shows that 4″-5″ smartphone panel prices fell between 1% and 2% in January. The first month of the year is typically a weak one, and the demand for smartphones is not strong at the moment. Vendors and retailers are also clearing inventory from December sales promotions.
Tablet demand has also slowed this month, so panel prices are expected to fall. Panel makers are preparing to produce new models and are therefore expecting a new wave of demand, which will help to stabilise panel prices in the coming months.
