Sony has posted a video showing its development of Holographic Optical Elements in R&D. The material can be used to show apparently 3D images when illuminated by a projector. The firm is showing the device at Siggraph which is said to have reached 3,000 cd/m² of luminance and over 85% transparency using a small projector.
What We Think
There’s a nice explanation on the website. I immediately thought of the work that Ceres has been doing to develop HOEs for dashboard HUDs. It’s worth a search on the website for Ceres if that’s a topic of interest. A hat tip to Dave Haynes of Sixteen-Nine.net for the spot. (BR)
