JP Morgan has forecast that the global VR market will be worth as much as $13.5 billion by 2020, compared to just over $2.5 billion this year. Gaming and entertainment applications will see the highest levels of adoption. The firm also forecast a 43% CAGR for shipments of VR headsets: from an estimated 21.6 million this year to 89.3 million in 2020.
The smartphone-based (‘bring-your-own-display’) VR market is expected to account for 30% – 35% of VR revenues this year, and 15% – 20% by 2020.
