VOD Visual launches ‘industry-first’ fine-pitch LED display

What They Say

AVMagazine reported on a new monolithic LED display from Edge Connect that is claimed to be the first to use a single HDMI connection. The firm’s cabinets are also claimed to be the largest single-die-cast cabinets on the market at 55″ diagonal, making LCD wall replacement simpler. The cabinets are designed to be upgradeable with 80% of the components being retained if, for example, the pitch of the display is upgraded from 2.5mm to 1.2mm.

The Edge is said to feature ‘vastly reduced’ power-consumption, while superior thermal management technology creates a cool-to-the-touch display, making it an eco-friendly solution, VOD said.

The displays were shown at ISE.

What We Think

I really don’t think these are the first small-pitch video walls to use a simple HDMI connection. The idea is far from new. I wonder if it’s the first to have only a single HDMI connector? At 2.5mm pitch, the cabinets would be 480 x 270 resolution, so 16 would be needed to support FullHD, or just four with 1.2mm pitch. (BR)
