Verizon’s Smart Display is real and responds to ‘Hi, Verizon’

What They Say

Verizon has a new smart speaker based on the Amazon Alexa platform. It has an 8″ 1280 x 800 display with 4GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. There is a front-facing camera with a privacy shutter and will include a low-power 4G LTE modem, but cannot be used as a hot-spot for internet access. It is intended to act as a back up to wifi or other internet connectivity issues.

The product will be available to ‘select Fios customers’ ‘in the fall’. Pricing is TBA.

What We Think

So far, I haven’t succumbed to the temptation to add a smart display to my home. I have an Alexa on my desk and another just for music connected to the TV/hi-fi. I have an existing digital photoframe that runs via USB and I admit to getting irritated that I can’t put images in the cloud or across the network to it. A smart display would be a good solution.
