Veeco Lowers Encapsulation Expectations

In 2013, Veeco purchased Synos Technology in order to acquire the company’s flexible OLED encapsulation method, Fast-ALD. The technique enables material deposition at lower temperatures (sub-100°) and faster speeds than traditional atomic layer deposition (ALD).

Veeco expected a manufacturing ramp last year, following a purchase order from Samsung Display; however, this never materialised. In its latest financial results, Veeco says that it does not see any revenue coming from the technology in the short-term.

Samsung is currently using Vitex’s multi-layer deposition technique, and is also looking at other technology’s such as Kateeva’s ink-jet printing method (Inkjet Encapsulation Developed for Flexible OLEDs).
