What They Say
The Laptop blog tested a Varjo Aero VR headset, the version of its headset that uses miniLED LCDs and is intended for serious use with apps such as Microsoft Flight Simulator and the VRM helicoptor simulator.
The review likes the comfort of the headset and kept the experience immersive – although the headset is big it is light and well padded. The reviewer found the image clarity ‘visually stunning’ even in apps including Google Earth. The images are ‘bright, vivid, and eye-popping’.
Although put off by the price and lack of accessories, the reviewer concluded:
“Do I want to put on the face pillow-esque headset and stare at everything in virtual reality, though? Of course I do, and anyone who has experienced it will.”
What We Think
I was really pleased to try the Varjo XR-3 at BETT last week, but I was disappointed that the Aero headset wasn’t on show. (BETT 2022: Part II – the Display Details). The target market for Varjo here is clear, but in the longer term, prices are only going to come down.
The company did get some kickback over distortion and warping in the images and the company has updated its software to improve the effect. (BR)
