What They Say
Sweta summarised how LCD panel prices are going in her DD on Monday (When Can LCD TV Panel Prices Stop Declining?) and just as we published it, DSCC updated its thoughts and reported that in Q2 TV panel price declines accelerated in Q2 to 3.6% month on month in April and 3.9% in May. In Q1, across the six sizes the firm tracks, the drop was 14% but 55″ dropped by 19% and 49″/50″ dropped by 22%. (more charts on the blog – registration required)
On an area basis of price/m², 65″ and 75″ continue to have a premium but a smaller one as makers with G10.5 fabs have a relative advantage in the current oversupply.
The firm also published its latest TV panel price index which shows that since the start of 2022, panel prices have been dropping and are now around 40% down on a year ago, although a month or two ago they were further down. In terms of the index price, panels are now below the previous low in the summer of 2020 and have lost all the gains in late 2020 and 2021.
What We Think
Really, it’s hard to imagine how different the world of TV looks from a panel maker’s perspective compared with Display Week last year. Feast to famine would be an understatement! (BR)
