Uldage Calls for Patents Essential to 4K/8K for IPTV and CATV

Earlier this month, Uldage called for patents essential to the standards of 4K/8K TV broadcasting, applicable to IPTV and CATV, in order to setup a license programme. Uldage (United License for the Digital Age), currently licenses a package of more than 600 essential patents which relate to digital TV broadcasting standards through a patent pool system.

Previously, Uldage contributed to the growth of both analogue and digital broadcasting by resolving the major patent issues surrounding sales and production of broadcasting receivers and broadcasting services.

In 2014, Uldage made a similar call for patents essential to the standards of 4K/8K broadcasting by satellites and then started preparing the new licensing programme.

The Japan Intellectual Property Arbitration Centre, a neutral third-party institution, carries out evaluations to determine if a patent is essential for the standards.
Any companies or institutions that believe they possess Japanese patents essential to the standards formulated by IPTV Forum Japan or Japan Cable Laboratories or both, can apply to the Japan Intellectual Property Arbitration Centre by 30th June 2017, to determine if their patents are essential to the standards.
