Apple TV Plans To Sell a Premium Bundle

According to Recode, Apple TV is trying to position itself as a major pay-TV player, and wants to sell premium bundles of top channels. Apple TV currently sells HBO, Showtime and Starz separately but now wants to pack them into a new premium bundle. Currently, Apple sells HBO for $15 a month, Showtime for $11 a month and Starz for $9 a month.

Apple is in conversation with the three networks on agreement to its plans. Standard subscriptions from conventional pay-tv providers normally offer a basic package with add-ons for premium packages. Apple, on the other hand, will sell the premium bundle as a standalone product delivered via iOS devices and Apple TV set-top boxes, and will not require customers to subscribe to a basic package first.

Apple has previously played down selling a traditional bundle of pay-TV channels OTT, unlike Sony, AT&T and Dish, that all sell web TV packages, and Google and Hulu that have plans to sell their own packages.
