What They Say
Strategy Analytics reported data for the development of the market for UltraHD TV sets. The number of homes worldwide using an UltraHD TV reached 380 million at the end of 2020, up by 27% from 301 million in 2019. In 2020 this equates to 19% of homes globally owning at least one UltraHD TV. Levels of Ultra HD TV household ownership vary significantly by region, ranging from 56% in North America in 2020 to just 6% in the MEA region.
8K TVs emerged in 2017 in very small volumes and shipment levels remained low in 2020 as high prices are keeping them well beyond the reach of the majority of TV buyers. However, 8K is very much a technology for the 2020s and over the next five years will steadily become standard for large TVs above a certain screen size.
