UBI: the OLED materials market will grow 17% in 2021 to $1.52 billion USD

What They Say

UBI Research of Korea forecast that the OLED emitter material market would grow this year from $1.3 billion in 2020 by 17% to $1.52 billion this year. Korean companies dominate the purchasing of the materials, with 74.3%, the balance being from China.

The firm said that emitters for RGB OLEDs are 81.4% of the market, with nearly all the balance being for WOLED TV panels. Although QD-OLED is expected to start its use this year, the emitters will be less than 1% of the market.

What We Think

No real surprises here. The data differs from the DSCC data that Bob O’Brien reported on a couple of weeks ago (AMOLED Materials Market to Grow 36% in 2021) DSCC looked at more than just emitters but still rates LG’s purchases for TV as higher than UBI does. DSCC has LG’s purchases at around 47% and despite the wider definition, has the overall market size at $1,399 million. (BR)
