Olednet.com published a forecast for IT OLEDs from UBI Research and said that volume would rise to 48.8 million units by 2027 from 9.5 million this year. The OLED market for IT is expected to be led by laptops by 2024 and OLED for tablet PCs and laptops are expected to lead the market from 2025, as OLED for tablet PCs begin mass production in 2024.
What We Think
Finally, OLED is going to become important for monitor makers. When I was researching and consulting on desktop monitors, for many years I was able to say that OLEDs were ‘noise not signal’. OLED still has some challenges from LCD on the desktop, but the level of engineering needed to make miniLEDs look as good as OLEDs will mean that OLED should have an advantage in premium markets. However, in the mainstream, LCD will be plenty good enough for a long time to come unless OLEDs can combine the better and better performance with lower costs. (BR)
