UBI: AMOLED Panels to Grow at 46% CAGR

UBI Research, of Korea, has published its annual OLED Display report, which predicts 40% YoY revenue growth for the AMOLED panel market this year, to $15 billion. Shipments are expected to rise 16%, to 270 million units.

It is believed that LCD panels will be ‘slowly replaced’ in smartphones, due to AMOLED’s use in models from Samsung and various Chinese brands, of course, there are rumours regarding the next iPhone. Approximately 500,000 G6 flexible AMOLED substrates will need to be produced each month by 2020 to keep up with demand, UBI said.

UBI says that the AMOLED panel market ‘staggered momentarily’ last year. However, an increase in demand pushed growth. Panel companies in China, Japan and Taiwan are all said to be seeking investment in flexible AMOLED lines.

Last year, the AMOLED panel market was worth $10 billion and 230 million units were shipped. Market value will reach $67 billion by 2020, growing at a CAGR of around 46%.
