Uber Orders Volvo XC90 for Self-Driving Car Fleet

Uber has entered into a $1.4 billion agreement with Volvo to purchase 24,000 of its XC90 SUVs between 2019 and 2021 to create a fleet of autonomous vehicles.

Uber is using the XC90 as the base for its latest self-driving test car, which it will install autonomous driving computing systems and sensors into.

Analyst Comment

This is a big gamble, but, I guess that in the worst case that the cars can’t be use autonomously, Uber will be able to lease them to their drivers! It’s not clear from these reports whether the cars will have any special facilities for use autonomously. (BR)
