U.S. Homes Adding SVOD Services Falls To 3.9% in 2Q, Kantar Reports

What They Say

Kantar has released data on the subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) market in the US and that highlights a slow down in growth in the market with just 3.9% of U.S. homes taking a new subscription to a streaming service down from 12.9% a year ago. Amazon was the main growth provider with 23.2% of new subscribers, helped by continued growth in Prime shopping customers during the pandemic. Discovery Plus took 9% of new subscribers, up from 7.7% and that has been enabled by a good process of ‘on-boarding’ which has the same rating as Netflix (8.6 average score).

What We Think

Well, you can’t keep growing forever and the proliferation of services has meant an increasing monthly cost if viewers want more than one service. (BR)
