tvOS 11.3 Fixes Dolby Vision, Brings Match Frame Rate to Apple TV 4

tvOS 11.3 brings the Match Frame Rate feature, previously only available on Apple TV 4K, to the device’s previous iteration, Apple TV 4. (Automatic Frame Rate and Dynamic Range Switching for tvOS 11.2)

It also fixes an issue with Sony’s recent update to add Dolby Vision support to its Smart TVs. Many users have complained that they are only able to access Dolby Vision content via their Sony TV’s streaming applications, with HDMI sources not outputting correctly. However, it has now transpired that, due to the way Sony has implemented its update, each HDMI device will need its own separate update in order to function properly. When these updates will appear is up to each device’s manufacturer, but at least Apple has made fast work of getting the Apple TV 4K up to speed.

There are also signs of the foundations being laid for the upcoming release of Apple AirPlay 2, according to Macrumors.

tvOS 11.3 is currently available to beta testers; no official release date has not yet been announced.
