Apple has rolled out tvOS 11.1 to Apple TV, bringing a range of bug and performance fixes including a fix for the Krack Wi-fi vulnerability.
Additionally, the update adds the TV app to devices in Sweden and Norway. Originally launched in the US only, the TV app was released in Australia and Canada in September.
The TV app is cross-compatible between Apple TV and iOS devices and allows users to watch content from a range of providers under one interface.
Apple has also stated its intention to bring the TV app to Germany, France and the UK. Major new features are planned for the next firmware upgrade, tvOS 11.2, which is due later this year. Features are expected to include automatic switching of frame rates and between SDR and HDR. At the moment, HDMI does not allow dynamic frame rate control, although it is not yet available in interface chips (it’s known as Game mode VRR). On the other hand, the Apple A10X is reported to be capable of adjusting frame rates (its called ProMotion on the iPad Pro).
