What They Say
The GfU published data for the World Television day – November 21st and highlighted research from ARD/ZDF in Germany that showed that
- daily usage time for moving images is 214 minutes (from 194 minutes in 2017 but down from 222 during the pandemic)
- Linear television dominates usage at 64%, while time-delayed usage is at 36%
- This ratio has shifted by five percentage points in favour of deferred use from 2021 to 2022
- Current TV programming leads with 81% of the frequency of video use (at least once a week)
- TV programmes and videos from media libraries follow at 61%
Between January and September 2022*, almost 3.3 million televisions were sold in Germany, a drop of 17.7%. Sales amounted to almost €2.3 billion, a drop of 14.5%.
What We Think
This is early data from the Hemix Q1-Q3 2022 report. The drop in volume in Germany is not surprising, but the smaller revenue drop means that the ASP has continued to rise as OLED TVs remain a popular option in the country. (BR)
