Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC) is reported to have won a lawsuit involving one of its former R&D executives, which claimed that the employee had passed details of TSMC’s 28-nanometer process technology to Samsung. Liang Mong-song had appealed successfully against an earlier ruling which prevented him from accepting a job at Samsung, claiming it violated his right to work.
However, Taiwan’s Supreme Court has overturned this decision, saying that allowing Liang to work at Samsung now would severely impair TSMC’s market competitiveness. TSMC had claimed that Liang’s actions had enabled Samsung to leapfrog TSMC to the 16nm and 14nm process nodes.
