Troubled Japan Display to sell LCD unit to Taiwan’s Wistron

What They Say

JDI said that it has agreed to sell its Kaohsiung Opto-Electronics industrial LCD module business to Wistron of Taiwan. The subsidiary had sales of $339 million in 2020 and the company has been sold for $72.3 million. JDI will continue to design automotive and industrial modules and sell them with manufacturing by Wistron. The deal will be completed in Q4, subject to approvals from authorities.

JDI has been working with Winstron on mobile modules.

What We Think

This is an understandable move as JDI looks to re-align and restructure its business. The firm is looking to develop into medical and health care areas. (BR)
