A South Korean start-up called First Face has filed a lawsuit against Apple and Samsung, according to Business Korea, claiming that the two smartphone giants infringed original patents for fingerprint-based authorisation technology dating back to 2011.
First Face CEO Jung Jae-lark claims to have invented the technology—which first appeared in the iPhone 5S in 2013—and that the start-up offered a licensing deal to Apple, which was rejected. No official legal paperwork detailing the case was available at the time of writing.
