Microsoft Developing Surface Hub 2

We heard at ProLight & Sound that Microsoft has dropped production of its current Surface Hub. We were able to confirm at press time that there will be a new Surface Hub, the “Surface Hub 2” which is expected to be announced at a developers’ event in May (and may be seen at Infocomm).

Analyst Comment

The Surface Hub was, in my view, an impressive product, although there were a lot of problems bringing it to market because of the determination of the company to have very low parallax, which meant a need for optical bonding. Unfortunately that proved to be difficult and Microsoft had to develop equipment for manufacture which delayed the start (the company is reported to have later moved production away from the first location). Still, it has certainly helped the category to develop. However, processors move on, so a second version would be no surprise.
