Toshiba to Restructure PC Unit

Toshiba has announced a restructuring of its PC business which will see around 900 jobs lost, accounting for more than 20% of its global workforce.

Although the PC business reported positive operating income in the first quarter, Toshiba said that in light of industry trends and future expectations the company has decided to implement further measures to support the business in securing profit. To achieve this, Toshiba will accelerate its shift to business to business and significantly downsize its business to consumer activities, including withdrawing from certain BtoC markets altogether. The company will also reduce the number of its sales bases around the world from 32 to 13.
