What They Say
I got an email from Toppan that explained its microfluidic chip technology being used to make tiny chips for very early cancer detection. The firm hopes to get to mass production by March 2022 and said that chips could be made on glass substrates using photolithograpy at lower cost than current injection moulded devices.
What We Think
The use of the term microfluidics caught my eye. I have been aware of this technology since the appearance of Alien Technology two decades ago, or so. Several companies are working in the field of fluidic self-assembly for microLED – for example *This Time, Fluidic Self-Assembly is Working. This release made me wonder if Toppan is doing that, too?
My other thought was that this kind of medical application might be interesting for someone with an old fab that is no longer competitive for display device mass production. (BR)
