What They Say
Digitimes said that the top five notebook brands (excluding Apple) saw shipments down 4% in April, despite strong demand from education and enterprise. The main issue was component shortages. HP is said to be tight on semiconductors and panels. Lenovo was down as a big education project in Japan, the Giga school project, has come to an end. Dell saw a boost in output because of ‘robust output’ for Chromebooks and enterprise products.
Looking at the suppliers (ODMs), Wistron saw an increase, but overall the top three were down 8%.
What We Think
While demand remains robust, even with lower shipments, panel pricing should remain firm. For more on the GIGA project, see this article. (BR)
