Three Key Features of Neo QLED 8K — Graphically Explained

What They Say

Samsung released some high level information about the improvements to image quality in its 2022 Neo QLED 8K TVs. It highlights:

  • 14 bit processing for the miniLED backlight, up from 12 bit. The firm emphasised that even with the same number of zones and LEDs, the quality of the image is improved.
  • Real Depth Enhance – the Neural Quantum AI 8K processor is used to identify the key elements in a scene and effectively creates a depth map that allows the objects to be processed separately to help them stand out from the background
  • Smart Calibration – using a recent Galaxy S or Flip/Fold smartphone, you can calibrate the image quality in 30 seconds for the Basic Mode and over 5-8 minutes in ‘Professional’ mode.

What We Think

I like both the backlight processing and Smart Calibration, but in the end, I’m less certain that I like the idea of the depth enhancement. I think I’d rather see what the creator thought I would, so I hope that it can be disabled. (BR)
