ThinkPad X1 Fold Reviewed

What They Say

Counterpoint Research has reviewed the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold. The firm said that the unit does have a slight crease visible when viewed from an angle, but not in normal use. The review quotes Lenovo as saying that ‘years of R&D’ to develop the mechanism. The screen can be positioned at 90° to the base and held there by friction.

There is a small gap that is noticeable when the unit is folded, but the gap that can be filled by the keyboard when it is ‘docked’ in the system. The keyboard can also be docked on the bottom half of the screen and the screen automatically adjusts to only show the visible part of the display.

The reviewer liked the performance of the display but found the keyboard frustrating. It also found that there were bugs that caused problems with Windows 10 and it also thought that the system was underpowered in terms of CPU and memory.

What We Think

The reviewer thought that the concept of folding was promising, but needs some refinement. Frankly, given the number of engineering challenges in creating a product like this, I think that’s pretty good. But would I buy one after reading the review? I think not! (BR)
