Comcast announced the launch of the Xumo Stream Box, a new 4K streaming device now available to Xfinity Internet and NOW TV customers. Comcast states the goal is to spend less time searching for content and more time watching it so, the Xumo Stream Box gives the company a foothold in a market that is quite crowded as it is, but I guess Comcast also has a captive audience it can pitch.
Key features of the device include voice search that spans apps to find content, personalized recommendations, quick access to Xfinity Stream’s live FAST channels for internet customers and NOW TV’s 40+ live channels, hundreds of popular streaming apps preloaded, and customizable features for personalization.
The box is powered by Comcast’s EntertainmentOS platform, which, the company claims, combines voice control, metadata, and AI technology in a proprietary way to enhance the user experience. EntertainmentOS also powers Sky Glass and Sky Stream devices.
