At the Computex event in Taipei, research institute, ITRI, showed a new module that puts a microLED array directly onto a PCB to create a 6cm x 6cm RGB LED module with 80 x 80 pixel resolution and sufficient luminance, the organisation said, for outdoor use. The module was developed in collaboration with Macroblock, Unimicron and PlayNitride. The chip size is reported to be between 50µm and 80µm and the pitch was below 0.8mm. Driver maker, Macroblock is expected to take responsibility for commercialising the technology.
Press reports also said that a transparent version of the module, built on glass, was also shown.
