The View on Tariffs from China

While DSCC has looked at the impact of a potential TV tariff from the US side, Sigmaintell has looked from the Chinese side.

First, the firm pointed out that the Indian government is increasing duty on display modules from 7.5% to 15% from April, for open cell panels from nothing to 5% and for SKD kits for TVs from 10% to 15%. These tariffs will increase barriers to sales in that region and price rises may dampen the market.

Second, the company looked at exports of TVs from China. It estimates exports in 2017 as 80 million, with 23 million going to the US, representing 29% by volume. TCL and Hisense were the biggest vendors and US brands such as Insignia, Vizio, JVC and RCA were big buyers.

Taiwanese OLEDs including TPV, Amtran and Compal also have facilities in China that would be affected.
