Zytronic’s Enlivens Ancient Texts with Its Technology

What They Say

The German publication, Invidis, has a written about the use of Zytronic’s ultra-thin touch technology by the Seoul National Library. Essentially, the image of the actual texts is projected onto a blank book because it isn’t wise to let the general public leafing through historic artifacts, and each page is lined with Zytronic’s touch screen laminate. The result is the feeling of interacting with a real book, but with all the wonder of digital search and technology.

What We Think

Display technology is evolving to adapt to the world around it rather than fit into it as a box or device. We have see the paradigm of computing change from people typing on a keyboard and looking at screens on a desk to sitting on a bus and two-thumbing their way through emails. If people are burying their heads in tiny screens and missing the real world around them then they just might want tactile experiences that mimic that same feeling. That may seem a little sad for some people, they may have a sense of loss about the way we engage with our environment, but it is an opportunity for the display industry to help shape new forms of engagement.
