What We Think
The data for the LFD market was from Futuresource and consists of ‘manufacturer reports’ and views of an editorial board. I got out of the market research business when too many of the largest brands decided to stop supplying data. When it was just one or two, I had been able to fill the gaps by a bit of industry collaboration, providing European data and detail to others who supplied global data. However, eventually, I could see that I was going to miss too much, so as I couldn’t reach the quality that made me comfortable, so I exited the business by selling it. Futuresource, judging by the wording, has the same challenge, but has continued. The firm thinks that Philips is now bigger than NEC/Sharp, which used to be third. (BR)
