The technology behind Atlanta’s Illuminarium

What They Say

We’ve reported a couple of times on the Illuminarium and its partnership with Panasonic. The venue uses around 50 Panasonic projectors for ‘a combined projection of more than 3 billion pixels’. Protocol reports that to meet the needs of the venue, Panasonic developed a new custom short-throw lens partly because during the construction, a decision was made to raise the ceiling by 5′ (152cm).

The venue has just opened to visitors.

What We Think

The delays from Covid helped Panasonic to win some time to do this development. Either sees this kind of facility as a big potential trend or it already had the lens idea in concept. Developing a lens for just one customer would be surprising. (BR)
