What They Say
Tesla has agreed to change its Passenger Play feature that previously allowed games to be played on a touchscreen when the car was in motion. The move was made after the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigated the feature which did ask for confirmation that the user was not the driver, but did not prevent its use.
Tesla has also issued a couple of big recalls. One is over a potential problem with the rear view camera system, where the cable could get damaged. The other is over a problem with a latch on the bonnet (hood). In all, 475,000 cars are being recalled – equivalent to its total production last year.
What We Think
I must admit that I thought that this kind of application was not legal in a car anyway, but that may just be the case in Europe. Over the years, there have been several approaches to this kind of challenge, with companies such as Sharp developing ‘dual view’ displays that used, for example, parallax barriers to create two distinct views when the content was viewed from the left and right.
