What They Say
TCL has shown at its DTC event that it hosted in Shenzen an 8K Inkjet printed OLED display that was co-developed with JOLED and TCL’s CSOT subsidiary. The article suggests that production might start in Guangzhou in 2023 at the TCL T9 plant which is rated as having a capacity eventually of 60K G8.6 substrates (2200 x 2500) (TCL Moves IJP OLED TV Plans On)
Another OLED was a 14″ rollable panel, again made using IJP and an 8″ 360° folding panel.
Also on display was a 75″ ‘microLED’ TV with 2400 x 1440 resolution and 600 cd/m² and using a 0.6mm pitch.
The company also showed flexible OLEDs and miniLED LCD products including a 49″ R800 gaming display with 240Hz refresh and a peak brightness of up to 1800 cd/m².
What We Think
Making a 75″ 8K OLED is no mean achievement using OLEDs, especially with IJP. Still, making a small number is different from mass production. I don’t see much potential for a 75″ microLED with less than UltraHD resolution these days, especially if the brightness is just 600 cd/m². Why would you not choose an OLED? (BR)
