TCL Sees LCD TV Shipments Dip in 2014

TCL Multimedia shipped 16.6 million LCD TVs in 2014, slipping 3.5% year on year, falling short of its target of 17 million sets. However, sales of smart TVs increased 34.1% YoY to 3.7 million units. LCD TV sales in December were also lower, dropping 5.3% to just under two million units.

In TCL’s home market of China, sales increased 6.8% to 1.3 million LCD TV sets, reversing the trend of previous months and hitting a historical high for single-month sales volume in 2014. The proportion of smart TVs increased 29.3% to 588,493 sets, accounting for 44% of the group’s total LCD TV sales volume in China.

Sales volume in the overseas market was down 22.8% YoY to 666,847 sets in December, caused by tight supply of certain sizes of display panels. This particularly affected sales in the emerging markets, were LCD TV shipments decreased by 14.7% to 410,862 sets.
