What They Say
A market research agency, Magirror Research, sent us a report that claims that TCL Huaxing, based on success for the Motorola Razr folding smartphone, would make more shipments than those of BOE in the foldable segment. The global market for foldable phones will be 8 million units in 2021, the firm believes, with 7 million to be sold by Samsung. It also said that yields at TCL, BOE and Royole are poor.
Although Huawei is expected to put the most emphasis on its folding smartphones to maximise revenues in the light of the constraints imposed by the US. However, the constraints are making things difficult for the brand.
What We Think
We don’t know this firm and we got the mail in Chinese, so had to rely on Google Translate. The company is significantly more aggressive than DSCC in its forecasts. Given how far we are already into 2021 and given the very steep ramp that DSCC is forecasting (DSCC Report Predicts Foldable Smartphones to Surge from 2H’2021 – Samsung Galaxy and Samsung Display to Remain Dominant. If I was planning, I’d use the DSCC number, but if I was raising money for a supplier, I might be tempted by the Magirror one 🙂 (BR)
