Tanvas Video Shows a Haptic-enabled Flexible AMOLED

What They Say

Haptic technology supplier, Tanvas of the US, posted a series of videos showing its haptic technology demonstrated on a flexible OLED. The 12.1″ display uses Tanvas PET film-based touch and haptic technology and because it combines touch and haptics, it avoids extra layers in the display stack.

Earlier in February, Tanvas said that it had been selected as one of 50 start-ups by LG Electronics’ LG Nova innovation centre. 20 of the 50 selected will have the chance to be funded through pilot programmes.

What We Think

We ran an interesting Display Daily five years ago by Tanvas’ founder. (Haptic perception: A primer) The Tanvas technology uses electroadhesion to generate touch sensations. That makes it ideal for flexible displays, where a motor-based system really won’t work well. The interest from LG Nova suggests that the display may be from LG. (BR)
