We saw medical panels from AUO at SID this year (Display Monitor Vol 21 No 25). According to Taiwan’s IEK, the value of the country’s medical equipment industry has risen 5.4% in 2014, to TWD85.8 billion ($2.75 billion). Surgical display demand has been on the rise, especially for large (60″+) units. Monitor vendors are also looking to niche medical items such as UltraHD displays. 74% of Taiwan’s surgical display revenues currently come from 2MP displays; however, 8MP (UltraHD) units are expected to represent 83% of revenues by 2017.
