Taiwan to ship 1.2 Million VR HMD Devices in 2017

According to Digitimes Research, the forecast shipments for 2017 of VR head-mounted displays from Taiwan, including ODM models, will be 1.2 million units. The figures were compiled by the Market Intelligence and Consulting Institute.

Also forecast were the 2017 global shipments of VR head-mounted displays which are expected to total 10.6 million units and a value of $1.31 billion. The equivalent figures for 2016 were 8 million units shipped at a value of $930 million.

According to an udn.com report, Taiwan-based ODMs, including Quanta Computer, Pegatron and Foxconn Electronics will be the beneficiaries of the growing global demand for VR devices. The report also highlighted that orders have been received by Quanta for second-generation Oculus VR devices and Microsoft’s entry-level VR HMD devices. The report also indicated that as Foxconn and Pegatron are the two ODMs that produce Sony’s PS gaming machines, they could possibly land the PS VR orders.
