Sources in Taiwan have estimated that the four local major panel makers will spend a total of NT$79.5 billion ($2.6 billion) between them this year on capital expenditure.
AU Optronics (AUO) and Innolux are expected to make the largest investments of NT$40 billion ($1.3 billion) and NT$35 billion ($1.1 billion) respectively, focused on expanding and improving their LTPS facilities. Hannstar Display is forecast to spend around NT$2.5 billion ($81.6 million) and Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) NT$1.5 billion ($48.9 million) on expanding production capacity.
In April, the four manufacturers sold a total of 18.4 million large panels, down 10.7% from March and 16% lower than April 2014. Total small and medium panel shipments last month reached 92 million units, down 5.7% sequentially and 11.3% YoY.
