Digitimes Research has announced that TFT-LCD panel makers in Taiwan increased their shipments of small to medium sized units by 1% in the last quarter of 2016 and by 10.2% for 2016 as a whole. The panel makers shipped 312.94 million units in total in the last quarter of 2016, with 88.7% being a-Si TFT-LCD panels and 11.3% LTPS units.
The panels were used in various devices with 78.5% for handsets, 5.5% for tablets, 5.4% for automotive displays, 2.9% for digital cameras and 2.1% for PNDs.
The largest maker was HannStar Display accounting for 37.4% of the shipments. Chunghwa Picture Tubes was the second largest with 31.4% of the shipments, followed by Innolux with 19.8%.
It is forecast that shipments in quarter one of 2017 will fall to 250.77 million panels but will rise for the whole year by 0.8% on year to 1.172 million panels.
