Taiwan’s major notebook ODMs reported sequential increases in sales in August, though only Acer and Pegatron achieved double digit increases. All of the ODMs expect their shipments in September to grow, as demand for notebooks gradually picks up.
Acer‘s sales climbed 24.4% month on month to NT$21 billion ($645.2 million), though this was almost 30% lower YoY. August’s result brought sales for the year so far to NT$166 billion ($5.1 billion), slipping 22% from the same period of last year.
Compal Electronics achieved a 6.8% MoM increase in monthly sales but an 11.3% drop YoY to NT$64.2 billion ($1.9 billion). Compal’s sales totaled NT$521.5 billion ($16 billion) in the first eight months of the year, up just 1.4% from the same period of 2014. The company shipped 3.2 million notebooks in August, up from 2.8 million in July and Compal expects its September shipments to reach four million units.
Quanta Computer reported an 8.7% MoM and 12% YoY increase in sales to NT$90.9 billion ($2.8 billion), bringing sales so far this year to NT$630.8 billion ($19.3 billion), up 7% YoY.
Finally, Pegatron Technology‘s August sales rose 13.4% sequentially and 16.4% from August 2014 to NT$75.8 billion ($2.3 billion), taking sales to date to NT$635.2 billion ($19.5 billion), up 13.3% from 2014. Pegatron shipped only 600,000 notebooks in August, slightly lower than the company’s original forecast.
