What They Say
The GfU said that over a million media boxes and streaming sticks have been sold in Germany this year by Q3. Sales in the first three quarters of the year reached €66 million, up 34% and with volume of 1.1 million, up 86%. The organisation quoted research that more than half (53%) of all those aged 14 or over use streaming services, up from 47% and now up to more than 37 million people. 52 million users (74%) look at internet video at least once a month, with 68% at weekly and 47% daily or almost daily.
What We Think
The growth is good in Germany as consumers there are both conservative and prepared to make an effort to make the most of what they have. They will be using these devices to add the latest connectivity to existing sets. In other markets, such as the US, they might be more likely to simply replace their TV with a new one. (BR)
